Please don't use the 4-letter alpha codes (thought we had agreed to that for MD Osprey). The correct code for Northern Shrike is NSHR. It is just best not to use these codes as it is confusing to those who don't know them or know the rules that govern how they are created. These codes were created for use on bird banding records so that the Bird Banding Laboratory could edit the species via computer rather than through a manual check. They are certainly useful for field notes and even ones created by individuals for their own use are helpful for quick tallies in the field. Thanks. See the site map at: http://cricketsong.tripod.com/NORSmap/index.html The "X" s on the map are perches that were used by the shrike during the time I was observing it. I could not find any Short-eared owls in the area unfortunately. Wilbur Fred. Co.
