On the way down Rt. 152 today, in front of the Fallston Rec Center, I spotted a dead owl. The kids thought I was nuts for stopping, even more crazy for picking it up and putting it in the car. It's a pretty disgusting ball of flesh and feathers. By comparing the feather patterns from the head and chest, and looking at the feet, I think it's a Saw whet. The wing feathers don't really look like either sawwhet or screech according to the NG guide. And there's no face left. So I think I'd like some help with this. Completely ready for the loony bin, I'm putting it in a ziplock baggie and freezing it. Is anyone out there interested in checking this carcass out and letting me know? Not that I can count it or anything(<g>--drat!), but I just found it interesting. Otherwise, I have to dispose of it don't I? Barb Meserve skiptech@compuserve.com
