For a one-stop place to see a good variety of water birds and land-based varieties as well, Piney Run is superb! On (and over) the lake were hundreds of Canada Geese, about 50 or so Ruddy Duck, one RING-NECKED DUCK (and, why not a ring-billed duck?), some gulls and other varieties. Over was a great look at a Red-Shouldered Hawk (no Bald this time out). As you enter the park -- right at the gate -- is a long hedge row on the right side of the road. All along there were many Bluebirds and (my favorite) Cedar Waxwing. Juncos and Blue Jays were everywhere. Going down the Orange trail, just after it starts, going down hill back toward an arm of the lake, is another hedge row with more Bluebirds and other common species. In the leaves on the left side (going down hill) it sounded like the ground was alive with all of the White-Throated Sparrows (and, probably, Juncos) flipping leaves looking for food.
