The Fort Belvoir, VA Christmas Bird Count will be held Jan 2, 2000 and will be compiled by Kurt Gaskill. This is a change in compiler and supercedes previous announcements. The Fort Belvoir, VA count is one of the oldest CBCs in the mid-Atlantic area, with the first count held in the 11th year of the National counts and a nearly continuous database stretching back to 1942. This database is significant for the region, illustrating, for example, the effects of DDT on the wintering Bald Eagle population, the explosive increase of House Finches, and the disappearance of Shrike from the DC area. If you are interested in participating in the count this year, please contact me at this address or at the telephone number below. Those who participated in previous years and desire to help again are encouraged to contact their Sector Leaders for team assignments. Please pass this message onto colleagues who may not have access to the area listservers. To webmasters: please update this CBC information on your websites. Thank you! I am looking forward to a great count and hope to see you all out there! Kurt Gaskill 703 768 2172
