I checked out the path between Lake Kittamaqundi and the Little Patuxent
River this afternoon. The highlights were 12 Caspian Terns, some
foraging, the rest hanging out with the gulls on a sand bar; two flocks
of Yellow-rumped Warblers; White-throated Sparrows singing lustily; and
a pair of Belted Kingfishers flying up and down the river and the east
edge of the lake. The Great Blue Herons are standing on their nests. I'm
eager to see some shorebirds, but although the mud flats are getting
bigger, there were none there yet.
