Ken Board and I stopped at Centennial Lake yesterday to check on the
bluebird boxes we've been assigned by the county to monitor. (No
bluebird nests yet, although a chickamouse* has already appropriated one
of the boxes.)

We were short of time and didn't get to the wildlife end of the lake,
but in the course of walking our trail we saw four firsts for us for the
year: 4 Double-crested Cormorants, 8 Barn Swallows, an Osprey, and a
Blue-gray Gnatcatcher. A fifth first (huh?) for Ken was a single Caspian
Tern. (Must have been a bad tern, though, because one good tern
deserves........ never mind. ;-) )

The Fish Crow pair is still in the woods between the concession dock and
the boat launching ramp -- if anyone sees evidence of breeding, please
let me know! (FICR is still only a POssible for my block so far, and I'd
love to get it confirmed.)
