Jenny, we have had groundhogs living under our deck for maybe eight years,
occasionally producing litters of cute little ones. For the most part, they
haven't been a problem, but don't plan on growing tomatoes or peppers (even
hot ones). They not only eat the fruit, but also eat the plants down to
the ground.

Much better than skunks.

Subject: [MDOSPREY] OT: Help with groundhog problem

I recently discovered that a groundhog has taken up residence under our
front porch. I noticed a hole there in the last month or so and today I saw
him for the first time. This seems strange since I live in a townhouse in
Columbia, not very close to any major wooded area. But I guess, like most
animals, they are being squeezed out of their natural habitat.

Does anyone on the list have any experience with this problem? I don't want
to hurt or disturb him, but I also don't want him (or her) to do any
permanent damage to the foundation of the house. I guess it could be
worse - it could be a skunk!

Thanks,

Jenny McClintock
