Hi all,
A short trip through the north field at Layhill Park produced my first
Yellow-breasted Chat of the year, which was skulking in a shrub, but well seen
because the small shrub was out in the middle of the field. The bird popped up and
then sank down, giving great looks, but never uttering a sound. A White-eyed
Vireo was virtually on top of it in the same small bush. Common Yellowthroats
were singing all over the place, and Ruby-crowned Kinglets were still around. A
single Savannah Sparrow was also seen, as was one of the young Great Horned
Owls, which was perched precariously on a big horizontal limb of a sycamore
tree, right above the trail.
