Thanks to all who provided very helpful suggestions on where to find
barred owls--proving once again what a great group this is!
Unfortunately, three hours of searching along the C&O canal south of Old
Anglers Inn yielded nothing of interest except a couple of parulas and a
red-eyed vireo. (My English friend, having just come in from London the
evening before, was a little red-eyed himself.) At least it was a
beautiful morning, and we can try Little Bennett and the other
recommended sites on his next trip.

Sorry for the slow reply, but for the last month there has been a Barred
Owl hanging around the old schoolhouse at the end of Kingsley Trail in
Little Bennett Park. Toni and I saw it last weekend, and other people
had seen and heard it previously. I was near there today, but didn't
look for the owl because I ran out of time while watching a RB Grosbeak,
Scarlet Tanagers, etc.

Ospreyers -
A friend who is a very experienced birder will be visiting from England
this weekend. He has never yet managed to see a barred owl. Does
anyone know of a spot in DC or Montgomery County where we would be
likely to find one on Saturday morning? Offline replies welcome.
Thanks,
