A little too cold for the Cerulean Warbler survey I wanted to take so
I settled for a long walk through the area. First I covered the towpath
from Sycamore Landing to Horsepen Branch, and then went from the
impoundments along Hunting Quarter Rd to the east and then back through the
central fields. Relatively quiet day with almost no landbird migrants. Did
find 3 pockets of Myrtle Warblers totaling 28 birds.
Ending up with 66 species bringing my year total for McKee-Beshers to
120. Highlights were an immature Mute Swan, a late pair of Green-winged
Teal, 4 flyover Wilson's Snipe, one American Coot, at least 3 singing
Cerulean Warblers, a Savannah Sparrow, and a flock of 150 or so American
Goldfinch.
There were at least 3 broods of Canada Geese and my first Wood Duck
brood(9 young) of the year.
