Denise Ryan and Taylor McLean ask about directions to Truitt's
Landing Road.

Truitt's Landing Road is only one of a number of generally east-west
running roads in southern Worcester County that end at the shore of
either Sinepuxent Bay or Chincoteague Bay.

To get to Truitt's Landing, specifically, from Rt. 50 in Worcester
County, head south on Rt. 113 toward Snow Hill. A mile or so past
the Snow Hill MacDonalds exit, turn left (east) onto Rt. 12. Rt. 12
heads pretty much in a southerly direction after this. At Cherrix
Road, turn left. At the fork go right. This is Truitt's Landing
Road. Shortly Boxiron Road comes in to Truitt's Landing from the
south (right hand side) and then the paved road takes a hard left
and a dirt road heads straight. Stick with the dirt road as this is
still Truitt's Landing Road. You will drive through some cut-over
wooded areas then emerge into a good marshy area which over the
years has hosted some wonderful marsh birds. The road may be dirt
but it is a public road. Don't venture off the road on either side
though--the property is private on both sides and the owners have
accosted us before this asking what we were doing on "their" road.
I think they get some poachers which explains their tenderness to
some extent. They quickly admit that the road is public when
pressed, however.

If you've made it this far south definitely drive further south on
12 to Girdletree, go left on Boxiron, then fork right onto Taylor's
Landing Road. This leads to a boat launch at the end but also
passes the entrance road to E. A. Vaughn WMA (the north end).

Continue down 12 a bit further and you come to the marked entrance
road to central Vaughn.

Continue further still to Stockton where you turn left on George's
Island Landing Road and also head through some good salt marshes to
the bayshore.

A mile or two further down 12 and you're in Virginia so this might
be a good place to stop.

Get the ADC map for Worcester County. Explore, Have fun, see some
great birds!!!

Best,
Norm Saunders
