EDWARD WAYNE MARSHALL, JR., M.D., 91

My friend, Ed Marshall's dad died yesterday. Dr. Marshall was best known
as an anti-smoking and practicing Quaker doctor in the best tradition of
selfless service. Dr. Marshall's birding activities mostly took place in
Pennsylvania and New Jersey but impinged on Maryland as well. Both
Marshalls were/are birders, Dr. Wayne probably the longest standing active
member of the Delaware Valley Ornithological Club, missing the Cape May
Christmas Bird Count only twice in 70 years, once for his daughter's
wedding, another time because of appendicitis. He was also a bird bander
for 65 years. His article, "Banding recovery adds House Finch to Maryland
list," appeared in "Maryland Birdlife", Dec. 1958, vol. 14, no. 4, p. 96.
A House Finch he had banded January 4, 1958, in Ardmore, PA, was shot by a
boy at Havre de Grace on April 6, 1958. There is a fine obituary of Dr.
Marshall in today's "Philadelphia Inquirer, Thursday, May 6, p. B9.
Memorial donations may be made to Moorestown Friends School, 110 E. Main
St., Moorestown, NJ 08057. A memorial service will be at 3 P.M., May 15,
at Medford Leas Retirement Community, Route 70, Medford, NJ. Burial will
be private. Letters of condolence may be sent to Dr. Wayne's son, Edward
W. Marshall, III, 641 Harts Ridge Rd., Conshohocken, PA 19428. Ave atque
vale, Dr. Wayne. - Harry Armistead, 523 E. Durham St., Philadelphia, PA
