While checking and erecting my Tree Swallow nest boxes in the
impoundments at McKee-Beshers (Hughes Hollow-Montgomert\y Co) this afternoon
I flushed a PURPLE GALLINULE along the N-S dyke a little south of the
bulletin board where all three impoundments meet.
It flushed from aquatic vegetation in the buttonbush swamp and landed
about 5 ft high in a willow tree where I had very good looks. It seem to be
feeding on something(insects?). I saw the pale blue frontal shield clearly.
The most obvious thing I noticed was the white undertail which was flashing
as the bird moved through the vegetation. Finally it flew about 20 feet and
landed in a clump of buttonbush.
This my third record for this species here.
