Folks
Catching up. Yesterday I went birding with Eric Gofreed. We birded Hancock Run Road, Willetts Road, Rt. 224, and the Camp Merrick Lions Club property. All locations are in south-western Charles County. The highlight was a singing Tennessee Warbler (#188 for the county year list). The Tennessee Warbler was on the corner of Smith Point Rd. and Rt. 224.
Other birds of note were:
Osprey and Bald Eagle are common around the camp.
Wood Duck
Cuckoo sp. - probably Yellow-billed
Red-headed Woodpecker
Fish Crow
White-eyed Vireo
Yellow-throated Vireo
Red-eyed Vireo
Warblers (14)
Tennessee
Northern Parula
Yellow
Yellow-rumped
Yellow-throated
Pine
Black & White
Prothonoary
Worm-eating
Ovenbird
Louisiana Waterthrush
Kentucky
Common Yellowthroat
Hooded
Both Tanagers were found. Summer is located at the corner of Smith Point Rd. and Rt. 224.
Today I headed to the Bryan's Road old sewerage treatment plant, and around Pomonkey Creek. The bird species of today was Black-throated Blue Warblers (#189). I had several along the trail and around the ponds. Other warblers at this location included:
Northern Parula
Yellow-rumped
Black & White
Ovenbird
Louisiana Waterthrush
Kentucky
Common Yellowthroat
Hooded
I also had a singing House Wren around the old ponds.
New yard birds for the year were: Yellow-throated Vireo (#98), Bank Swallow (#99), Eastern Kingbird (#100), and a female Tennessee (#101). This is the fastest start I have ever had at the Waldorf property. I even got some yard work done.
What will tomorrow bring? Hopefully a Purple Gallinule.
George
