On April 20, at Oakland Road Point on Liberty Lake, I saw 148
Double-crested Cormorants (DCCO). Three appeared to be
immatures.

On April 27, I saw 95 DCCO. About one-third were immatures.

Yesterday, April 30, I saw 55 DCCO, and about half were
immatures. They all flew up from the water to the trees at
7:37 - 7:50 PM, just before sunset.

The numbers of DCCO at Liberty are dropping quickly as they head
north to breeding grounds, probably the Canadian maritime
provinces and the Gulf of St. Lawrence. The decrease in numbers
has been 9+/day, but with immatures increasing at a rate of
2+/day, the apparent fly-through rate is about 12/day. (If
adults are still arriving, the rate is higher.) I would say we
have a minor DCCO flyway through Liberty Lake.

This spring staging of DCCO at Liberty Lake was first noticed
last year by Bob Ringler, who encouraged me to track it more
closely.
