Hi all,
Cathy Stragar and myself, along with 2 kids from the ANS youth group did a
fundraiser birdathon combined with May Count in parts of Montgomery County
today. We found about 78 species total. Best finds were a very secretive MARSH
WREN at Hughes Hollow and a fly-by Yellow-crowned Night-Heron there also. Other
good finds were a juvenile Northern Harrier at Black Hill Regional Park, a
displaying Cooper's Hawk over Woodend in Chevy Chase. Very few migrant warblers
were seen, and we dipped on Scarlet Tanager. We did have a pair of Warbling
Vireos at HH, as well as Prothonotary Warblers, Blackpoll, Yellow and
Yellow-rumped, and C. Yellowthroats. Other warblers seen or heard were Blue-winged,
Prairies (carrying nesting material), N. Parula (going to a nest), Magnolia,
American Redstart, and Ovenbird.
