Schoolhouse Pond, Upper Marlboro, MD, 5/14/2004, 8:40-9:35 a.m.

        Highlight was a very cooperative WHITE-EYED VIREO, a year-bird and (I
think) a life-bird as well. Great looks at the white eye, yellow around
head, gray nape, bright wingbars and yellow underwing.

        Other species noted:

        Northen Parula (year bird)
        Blue-Grey Gnatcatcher
        Mallard (numerous, nesting)
        Canada Geese (with chicks)
        House Sparrow
        Great Blue Heron (2)
        Cardinal (M + F)
        Chimney Swift (2)
Barn Swallow (5+ over the pond)
        Osprey
        Turkey Vulture
        Tufted Titmouse
        Grey Catbird
        Red-Winged Blackbird
        Eastern Kingbird
Wood Duck (single male, in flight)
        Mourning Dove
        American Robin

        Other wildlife:

        Painted turtles (several dozen)
A snake moving on top of the water - did not appear to be a Cottonmouth.

        Good birding!
