Hi,

I saw the lovely Purple Gallinule at Hughes Hollow last night at about 7:20
pm. It was roughly where Ottavio Janni, Lydia Schindler, and Paul O'Brien
found it yesterday, except that it was perhaps 30-50 feet from me. The eye
is a duller, darker red than the eye of the adult illustrated in the Sibley
guide, but otherwise it looks like an adult. The bird almost climbed on top
of the "spatterdock" leaves at times, though I mostly saw the head and upper
neck. I saw the bird fly three times, each time heading further north and
farther from me. After it landed the last time, at about 7:25, it
disappeared completely. I looked for it for the next 1/2 hour but never saw
it again.
