Sunday mid-morning I was with a (non-birding) group at the National Arboretum. Brought my binos & saw/heard some good birds, though we started at 10:00 a.m. There were 2 yellow-billed cuckoos apparently keeping company -- would that indicated that they're nesting nearby? I first heard one singing, then located the bird just as it flew, followed closely by another.

Other birds included Common Yellowthroat, Blackburnian Warbler, Magnolia Warbler, and lots of singing Wood Thrush.

A week earlier I had a similar Cuckoo experience while biking on the Capital Crescent Trail in the evening. I had stopped around mile marker 9-9.5 to see what I could see when 2 Y-B Cuckoos flew in to a tree just ahead. I had wondered at that time as well whether they were a breeding pair. I don't remember seeing or hearing them before in that area.
