"Rigby's Folly", Armistead property on Ferry Neck, Talbot County, MD, near
Bellevue. Sunday, May 16, 2004. Didn't do much birding today. No
passerine flight at all. 38 species including 1 Common Loon, 1 ad. Bald
Eagle, a Greater Yellowlegs, 3 Chimney Swifts (which don't seem to be put
off by our new chimney caps, which have openings for them), 4 crested
flycatchers, 1 Red-eyed Vireo (a migrant), a male Blue Grosbeak, a male
Indigo Bunting, and 4 towhees.

Also: 4 Painted Ladies, 1 Common Whitetail, 1 Tiger Swallowtail, 1
Red-spotted Purple, and a female Box Turtle on the driveway.

Bombay Hook N.W.R., Sat., May 15. A brief visit so Liz could see some of
the shorebird spectacle. Raymond's Pool with 100s of shorebirds even
though it was low tide (mid-afternoon), including 35 or so avocets. On the
tidal flats opposite Shearness Pool were c. 500 Black-bellied Plovers, many
in beautiful breeding plumage.

Corrigenda. In a posting to the Talbot County Bird Club and to the
Washington College Center for Environmental Studies (but not to MDOSPREY)
I indicated our Delaware Big Day ("May Run") total for May 14 was 183
species. Actually, it was 188; the person counting them up had not
factored in 5 new species we had just found at Bombay Hook. If any
MDOSPREY readers want to see the summary for that day please e-mail me and
say so. Another mistake ... we saw 15 waterfowl species, not 14.

May 15. Crossing, waddling across the southbound lanes of Rt. 301 just s.
of the intersection with Rt. 300 were a hen Mallard and 8 small downy
ducklings (cute!), so tight a group they seemed to be one organism. This
is in the middle of nowhere with no visible water anywhere.

Best to all.-Harry Armistead, 523 E. Durham St., Philadelphia, PA
