Hi Folks,

I made a couple of stops with Brian Sykes this evening, first dropping in to
the big Halethorpe Pond, where we found an adult TUNDRA SWAN. Sykes took
some photos of this bird yesterday, and they clearly show the small yellow
patch at the base of the bill. Yesterday Sykes had a CLIFF SWALLOW flying
over the pond, and on Tuesday (5/18) he photographed a breeding plumaged
HORNED GREBE, which we did not see this evening.

Later this evening, at Southwest Area Park, many of the birds singing
yesterday morning were still singing this evening: several YB Cuckoos,
Willow Flycatcher, Marsh Wren, Chats, and many Orioles. Other interesting
finds were three GREAT EGRETs, one in the pond and two flying by, a flyby
WOODCOCK, four LEAST TERNs noisily feeding over the pond, and three COMMON
NIGHTHAWKs flying overhead. Lots and lots of activity there, producing a
very satisfying evening of birding.
