I inspected my seven prothonotary warbler nest boxes along the C&O canal in
Montgomery Cty this past week with the following results:

Pennyfield - Top off, floating nearby, nothing obviously inside. How
did this
             occur?

Violettes - Empty. This box has had Carolina wren, Carolina Chickadee
and
             Prothos in other years.

       Riley's
             1. Five, four day old nestlings. The old reliable.
             2. Six, four day old nestlings, one plump cowbird nestling that
promptly
fledged before the top was replaced.
             3. Five, two day old nestlings. One cowbird egg removed on May
12.
             4. Empty, but fledged six chickadees about May 7

Hugh's Hollow - Empty. New box, installed a bit late. Maybe will get
a second
             nesting.
