My apologies if this colony has already been reported, but my search of
the archives came up dry.
This morning, about 7:30 a.m., while driving through Chestertown, I noticed
Least Tern activity in the roof of Rose's Discount Store at the intersection
of routes 213 and 291. On my way back, I stopped to make sure, this time
around 12:30 p.m. I saw at least half a dozen. I observed one bird
carrying something land on the roof, a food item? The birds vigorously
defended the roof from passing crows and grackles. In any case, it was an
unexpected, but delightful surprise.
