I was at Sean's twice today. The first time was in the 11:00-12:30 time
frame, where birders outnumbered the kites by several. We did have a
direct fly over of two, I'm told they were immature. Another was seen
at fairly close proximity, but all the other views were VERY long. After
a break for lunch, I dropped back by, and was rewarded with an even closer
look of a Mississipi close overhead. I finally decided to pack it in about
2:00, and was headed out when Matt Hafner flagged me down, and put me on
the [DISTANT!] Swallow-tailed. It was up with 3-4 Mississipis. After a
dive, it was not seen again, but the number of Mississipis grew to 5 or 6.
I want to thank Matt and Harry for putting me on most of the kites I
saw, and Sean and his family for finding the critters and proving to be such
wonderful hosts. And Sean's neighbors for putting up with these strange
people standing around in the street, and in the case of the family across
the street, in their yard, without complaint. Two excellent birds for my
state list, one of which was also a lifer.
