I spent three hours haunting Hughes Hollow today, between 10 a.m.
and 1 p.m. No sign of the Purple Gallinule, Common Moorhen, or Coot.
I heard at least two different Prothonotaries singing, saw a Great
Crested Flycatcher, and several Yellow-billed Cuckoos. A Great Blue
Heron subdued and downed a sizable carp. There were also several Green
Herons about.
A non-birder reported seeing a duck with taped wings. Apparently it was
left behind by dog trainers, who present 10-1200. At least I HOPE those
shots were blanks for dog-training!!!!
