See Life Paulagics is running a pelagic out of Lewes, DE on Saturday, August 28.
This is the classic time of year to search for White-faced Storm-Petrel. In
recent years only a few pelagics have gotten out far enough to explore
Baltimore Canyon at this time of year, but a trip I organized out of Cape May
in 1993 found my first White-faced. In the last dozen years or so I've
personally seen 7 of these little cuties from NJ ports, so finding one is a
very real possibility, not an enormous long-shot. Be sure to check out the
photos of last year's White-faced seen out of Belmar, NJ on our web site!

Long-tailed Jaeger (mostly juveniles) are another good possibility at this time
of year. Don't be scared. With a good look, ID of many juvenile Long-taileds
is relatively straight-forward, and we will be announcing all of the field
marks on any bird we see. The Long-tailed we saw last year out of Belmar is
also on our web site.

Other possible species at this time of year are Cory's, Greater, Manx, and
Audubon's Shearwaters, Wilson's and Leach's Storm-Petrel, Red-necked Phalarope,
South Polar Skua, Pomarine and Parasitic Jaegers, and Common, Arctic, Black,
and Bridled Terns. In a year when blue Gulf Stream eddies come in to the
Continental Shelf, Bridled Tern and Audubon's Shearwater are fairly regular.

Our target destination is the Baltimore Canyon and, if time permits, the
Wilmington Canyon. Time will be spent in both MD and DE waters. Here are the
details.

    Time: 5:00 AM - about 7:00 PM
    Cost: $125
    Boat: 85' Thelma Dale IV
    Leave: Fishermen's Wharf, Lewes, DE

For further information, E-mail us at , call us, or see our
web site.

Hope to see you aboard!
