Talk about being in the right place at the right time!
While atlassing today near Prettyboy Reservoir in northern Baltimore
County, I came across twelve species of warbler, five of which were newly
confirmed breeders for my block.
After confirming KENTUCKY WARBLER (FL), I turned to hear some loud chipping
and followed the noise into the thicket. There was a great deal of
movement and chipping all around me, so I thought I had stumbled upon a
nest.
Then, literally, without moving my feet, I confirmed WORM-EATING WARBLER
(FL), OVENBIRD (FL) and LOUISIANA WATERTHRUSH(FL). I put down my
binoculars and saw a BLACK-AND-WHITE WARBLER (X), and HOODED WARBLER (T)
about three feet away. Nearby a COMMON YELLOWTHROAT (already confirmed
(FY) was singing and across the stream was a YELLOW WARBLER (T).
A short drive to the pine woods confirmed PINE WARBLER (FL) but I could
only hear the NORTHERN PARULA (T).
Earlier in the morning a YELLOW-BREASTED CHAT (X) was perched and singing
and a BLUE-WINGED WARBLER (T) was heard.
