I took a short walk this morning at Middle Patuxent Environmental area and,
despite getting attacked by flies, had a great time! I saw a Blue-winged
warbler; a lifer for me! I got a good long look at what appeared to be a
female hopping around and foraging for insects in a shrub. She gave me
quite a nice show and I hope I got the ID correct (someone let me know if I
am way off base here).

Also a RT Hummingbird fed from a flower right in front of me for quite a
while and didn't seem to care at all that I was there. What a cutie!

Also saw/heard:

Indigo Buntings (several, very beautiful)
Common Yellowthroats (good look at one singing his little heart out! several
other singing)
Cardinals (lots!)
Catbirds (even more!)
Scarlet Tanager (one heard)
Red Tailed Hawk (flyover and heard)
Red Shouldered Hawk (heard only)
R-E Vireos (heard)
W-E Vireos (heard)
Carolina Wren
Blue-Gray Gnatcatcher
Bluejay
Wood Thrush (2 singing their hauntingly beautiful songs)

Also saw white-tailed deer and lots of GORGEOUS butterflies and dragonflies.

By the way, my husband and I are going to Garrett County (Deep Creek Lake
and Swallow Falls SP) this weekend (my first time there). Anyone have any
birding tips for the area? What exciting birds can I hope to see there that
I wouldn't find around here in the summer? Is it possible to find (or hear)
a Veery there in the summer? I tried to find bird lists for Garrett county
online, but can't find anything. Anyone have any links?

Thanks!!
