Glad to see someone here on MDOsprey who hikes the AT and birds it too!

The only basic difference between birding and hiking is that one requires
you to stop rather frequently and "check it out". Dedicated hikers don't
like to slow down that much. I think I might be genetically incapable of
being a true hiker. I seem to carry a gene for checking it out. Even on
treks down to trout streams I find myself pausing a lot.
    For those of you who aren't familiar with it, the AT passes thought a
lot of good habitat. Just slow down and enjoy. You don't have to try to get
from Maine to Georgia in one day. Allow at least a week.
