This morning, 7/6/04 I visited a few areas in Calvert County and found some
nice birds. At Hutchins Pond in Owings I came upon a vocalizing
Black-billed Cuckoo and watched a female Red-winged Blackbird bringing
nesting material into a small pond-side alder. Eastern Meadowlarks are
still singing in the nearby fields. A quick trip to North Beach to check
out the condition of the marsh found it to be in great condition for early
shorebirds but none were there save for a few Killdeer. However, eight
Snowy Egrets were accompanied by one immature Tricolored Heron. I enjoy
watching this species hunt -- they're so animated.
