I spoke to the plant manager in May, he stated the hours for birding was
from 7 AM to 3 PM when the facility was staffed.

I had a call this evening from Ann Mitchell out in the western part
of Maryland. She has been atlasing in the the Funkstown block and
has been lucky enough to gain permission to do some of her atlasing
work at the Funkstown Sewage Lagoon.

Yesterday the manager almost turned her away, saying that some
birders had shown up insisting they had a right to bird there and
being quite abusive when they were told that the No Trespassing sign
meant just that.

In any event, Ann would appreciate it if people didn't argue with
the sewage treatment plant manager--that only endangers her access
to the area. If one of you out there really feels a need to visit
the site, Ann asks that you contact her at 240-420-0808 and she will
make arrangements to take you in with her when she is atlasing
there, expecially, she says, if you have a good ear!

Whatever you do, when you are turned away from an area that is
posted, please be civil. Abusing the staff of a locale only gives
all birders a very bad name.

Best,
Norm
