The Black Terns at Violette's Lock, Montgomery Co., peaked at 35, including 2
juvies. They mostly chased insects over the emergent vegetation at the head
of the rapids, but groups also moved upstream of Seneca, and downstream towards
Blockhouse Point. A few times they kettled high in the sky.
Shorebirds that popped out of the grassbeds at various times included:
1 Ruddy Turnstone
1 Semi Plover
3 Pectoral Sandpipers
3 Sanderlings
Semi, Least Sandpipers
Greater Yellowlegs
! Caspian Tern and 21 Forster's Terns (no juvies) also passed through. A
leucistic Tree Swallow is among the hundreds of swallows of six species feeding
over the rapids.
