Kurt,
   If it was larger than the Canadas it is a good bet it was not a White-fronted Goose.  Many Greylags and hybrids of Greylags can show white at the base of the bill.  Greylags also have a thicker neck which is usually noticeable.  And allow me to put in a plug for the Yellow Book too; a quick check there is always useful.
