The Curlew Sandpiper is about 2.5-3.0 km north of the State Park parking lot
on Assateague Island. Walk north about 2 km to the narrow white-topped post
marked 8.0, visible from the beach. At that point cut diagonally across the
island through a narrow fringe of marsh and out onto a large bayside flat that
extends north for a ways. Near the north end of the flat is a large temporary
pond. The bird was still there at 11:30AM on Monday. The bird nesting area signs
are down. Other birds there included lots of Semi and Piping Plovers, S-b
Dowitchers, Western, Least and Semi Sands, lots of Least Terns with young, and
one Gull-billed Tern.
