No obvious migrants yet, except for the Ring-billed Gulls who have
been moving in since early July. In the DC Veterans Memorial area
there are a lot of birds I interpret as local dispersers: American
Robins, Common Grackles, Blue Jay families, and such. At
Constitution Gardens, more of the same, as well as a Green Heron in
the 'reed beds' surrounded by wire.
In the Mary Ripley Garden at the Smithsonian, a female
hummingbird has taken charge of the Salvias. I see nothing to contradict
the idea that it is a Ruby-throated. It is very aggressive: I saw it
chasing a catbird!
