Mid-September is usually the best time to see large numbers of Broadwinged Hawks in
Maryland as they push south. This year a small number of us will once again try to monitor
the flight at Cromwell Valley Park in Towson. The past few years have been somewhat slow
(under 1,000 Broadwings in 2003) However, the potential for big flights was evidenced in
2001 when over 4,400 Broadwings were counted in two days (Sept.16+17th)! I plan on being
at the park most days from Wednesday Sept. 15th thru Wednesday the 22nd. Anyone who
would like to join us amateur hawk-watchers, or if you'd just like more info, feel free to E-
mail me at the adress above. The Hawkwatch is an officially sponsored activity at Cromwell
and as such is open to interested parties even though the park is closed to non-sponsored
visits.
