We've watched in vain the last few nights, hoping to see Common Nighthawks
over our house in West Bethesda.

Tonight we were not disappointed.  At about 7:15 p.m., a good 50 minutes
before it got really dark, a dense group of 30-40 suddenly appeared over
our house, but rapidly disappeared to the West. They were higher up than
usual.  Then, about 7:40 p.m., four came over going South, and at 7:45
p.m., one came over going North.  These last 5 were flying much lower than
the preceding birds.
