Hi all.

A possible Red-necked Stint was found at the far end of Raymond Pool at
Bombay Hook (Delaware) Saturday at near noon. It was found by a birder who
has seen Red-necked Stints in Alaska, and says that he previously saw
another one at Bombay Hook that was discovered by another birder, but he
could confirm that sighting. The bird showed a great deal of orange on the
throat ,upper breast and cheeks, and had dark spots beneath the orange
forming a necklace appearance. A portion of the orange appeared over the
bill as well. It was a slender bird. We wished it would stand next to a
Semipalmed Sandpiper for a size comparison, but for some reason it just hung
around next to a Western (compared with which the bird was smaller). The
length of its leg to the ankle joint appeared short so that the ankle
appeared to be just beneath the bird's feathers. It showed no rufous on the
back. The bird was observed for about 30 minutes at close range
(approximately 25 yards? - it was feeding just above the line where the
grasses on the near shore obscured the water). The bird was lost and was not
refound for about another 30 minutes by which time I had to leave.

My brother was with me and had his digital camera. With luck, he may have
some pictures available later this evening to post. (This was one of his
first times to try digiscoping, so let's keep our fingers crossed.)
