People shorebirding on the Eastern Shore and in Delaware might want to be on the lookout and report sightings.

Hi Mark,

I forwarded your message to the Red Knot project. You should get a response shortly. For anyone who doesn't know, a green flag means the Knot was banded in the U.S. There is a long-term project banding Red Knots at Delaware Bay each spring. A team heads to the Canadian arctic during the breeding season and any birds banded there will carry a white flag. Wintering Knots are banded in Brazil and Argentina with red and orange flags.

Subject: [BIRDBAND] Color banded Red Knots

Hi folks
I spent last week camping on Ocracoke Is. which is part of the Outer Banks of North Carolina. I saw color banded Red Knots on three occasions on the beach adjacent to the campground. Saw one bird on Sept 13 and 15, 2004 with the bands yellow left and orange right on the tarsus, a green flag on the left tibiotarsus and a metal band on the right tibiotarsus. The second bird was seen on Sept 14 and it was marked yellow over blue on the left tarsus, green over blue on the right tarsus, a green flag on the left tibiotarsus and a metal band on the right tibiotarsus. I watched them w/ a 20x scope but could see no markings on the color bands. Just curious but does anyone know where they were banded? Thanks, Mark
