Hi all,
The trip to Blue Mash on Sunday Oct. 3 yielded a number of different
species than I saw there on Saturday, but we ended up with about 53 species,
including an early female RUDDY DUCK on the small pond, both Teal species, A. Black
Duck, Wood Duck and Mallards on the big pond, Red-tailed and Red-shouldered
Hawks, both Cooper's and Sharp-shinned hawks, A. Kestrel, and a single
immature N. Harrier, a single adult RED-HEADED WOODPECKER (seen by just me, in
flight, near where I sw one Saturday), Yellow-bellied Sapsucker (new for my park
list), Downy WP, N. Flickers, and 6 sparrow species including at least one
immature White-crowned Sparrow. The cold front pushed many of the Chimney
Swifts through, with just small numbers seen as compared with Saturday. Only one
warbler (Magnolia) and one vireo (Red-eyed) were seen.

A large number of Killdeer were seen flying around, as were many many Canada
Geese.

A very pleasant morning to be out.
