Hello All,
Now for the larger report of yesterday morning birding around Oak
Grove. The weather was odd for a cold front that supposedly passed during
the night. It was still cloudy, never got cold (morning low of 62 degrees)
and the wind was out of the northeast. Nevertheless, there was decent
activity and evidence that some different birds had arrived. The northeast
wind led me to working some different areas than normal in order to find
protected spots out of the wind. The best of these was a mixed feeding
flock in the woods to the right of the pond on the farm (MD - Bob, I
remembered to make note!). usually this is a shady, cool face, but was one
of the protected spots. The flock turned out to be a 'one of everything'
flock with the aforementioned 'Baypoll' Warbler (#142 for the year,
pending), 1 BTG (an imm male), 1 Redstart (a yellow), 1 Parula (an adult
male), 1 Yellowthroat, 2 Magnolias (adults), 2 B&W (an adult male and
female), 2 RC Kinglet, 1 RB Nut, 1 RE Vireo, Chickadees, Titmice, a
Cardinal, RBWP and DOWP.
The sparrow flock in the cutoff woods (MD) was smaller, but still
quite productive - 12 Blue Grosbeak, 4 Indigo Bunting, 3 Towhee (absent for
some weeks), 8 ea Chipper and Field, 1 ea Song, Swamp, White-Throat and
Lincoln's (#143). Other finds - 5 Bobolink and 2 western Palm Warblers
(DE), a House Wren and 2 Phoebes (MD), 4 more Yellowthroat elsewhere on the
farm; an adult Bald Eagle and a Vesper Sp. on Oak Grove Rd (MD); 5 Pectoral
Sand and 11 Killdeer in a corn stubble field on Wild Turkey Rd (DE). 53
species total.

Good Birding,
