I had a single AMERICAN GOLDEN PLOVER at North Branch this morning
(10/10/04) around 10:00 am. There was a GRAY-CHEEKED THRUSH at Rocky
Gap State Park near the new-ish Pavillion East of the main park
entrance. Very few warblers found along Green Ridge Road today but I
did have a single BT Green Warbler, Pine Warblers (singing), and a
number of Myrtle Warblers. Red-breasted Nuthatches have been easy to
find on every trip through the Forest that I've made over the past 2 or
3 weekends as have Yellow-bellied Sapsuckers. Both were present this
morning as well.
Yesterday (10/9/04) at the spray fields (near North Branch), I found at
least 3 LINCOLN'S SPARROWS, several White-crowned and Song Sparrows with
a few (maybe 20) Field Sparrows, 5 or 10 Savannah Sparrows, and a single
Swamp Sparrow (seen today also). White-throats and Chipping Sparrows
make 8 sparrow species.
