I had a really productive morning in Bowie today. I birded the pine woods
immediately behind the I-Section, and then did one loop around one of the
mounds of the old Bowie Landfill (at MD 450 and MD 3).

Highlights in the pines included several Ruby-crowned Kinglets, one Golden-
crowned Kinglet, many Chicadees and Titmice, many Mrytle Warblers, and one
Blue-headed Vireo. This bird was dark and had very limited yellow, and
could have been the Appalachian subspecies. Sparrows in a scrubby second-
growth area included White-throated, Song and one Chipping Sparrow.

Around the landfill, the highlights included three Eastern Meadowlarks.
Three Tree Swallows were flying over the grass. Raptors included a Red-
tailed Hawk, Red-shouldered Hawk, Cooper's Hawk, Sharp-shinned Hawk, as
well as both vultures.

On my way out through the pines, I got great views of one adult female
Black-throated Green Warbler at close range. A very bright bird among some
Titmice, Chicadees, and Cardinals.
