I stepped outside my house around 4 p.m. and was surprised to notice fluffy
stuff drifting down from the cloudy sky -- feathers! For about 30 seconds,
inch-long partly downy gray-and-tan feathers continued to float down from
the top of a nearby nearly leafless tree, but no birds (dead or alive) were
visible. Perhaps the Cooper's Hawk I saw yesterday in my neighbor's yard was
still around and had gotten lucky, not to mention transparent.
