A few years ago I was birding in SC & saw an adult eagle take a loon from the 
water, after a bit of a struggle, it did the same thing-rowed into shore with 
its wings. At first we thought the eagle was in trouble, but eventually it 
made it to shore with the loon. After that his big problem was keeping the crows 
& gulls at bay.
