This afternoon I visited Violettes Lock on the Potomac to look for the Brant that was seen through the weekend. It was very difficult to see about three quarters of the way across the river near the beginning of the rapids. It was behind a log and I saw it only because part of the log protruded high above the level of the river. I was actually looking under the log to see the bird standing in full view on a rock behind it. It was not visible from other angles. Later it moved into a grassy, rocky area and I lost sight of it. This was about 2-2:15 PM.
Also present were 6 Double-crested Cormorants and 2 Ring-billed Gulls.
