Went out for an early lunch to enjoy the warm weather before the cold front arrives tonight. Did not relocate the Rose-ringed Parakeet. At the pond, instead of Ring-necked Ducks, there were 5 MALLARDS and 6 GREEN-WINGED TEAL. A BELTED KINGFISHER rattled back and forth across the pond. The HOUSE WREN was still in the brambles along with numerous N. CARDINALS and SONG SPARROWS. I saw an adult and a juvy BALD EAGLE as well as a RED-TAILED HAWK and a SHARP-SHINNED HAWK.
When I got back to the main road, I noticed a large bird flying over the Patuxent River. Thinking it might be one of the Bald Eagles, I was suprised when it turned out to be a BROWN PELICAN!
At the feeder at the lab, I had a very close encounter with another Sharpie. It made a run at the feeder and just about ran into me in pursuit of a HOUSE FINCH. All of the other birds (TITMOUSE, CHICKADEE, WHITE-THROATED SPARROW) sat motionless in the bushes or on the ground though the Sharpie was long gone. Better to freeze than become dinner.
