I birded Triadelphia Reservoir with Jo Solem yesterday. We made four stops around the lake. Starting at Triadelphia Lake Road we walked to the upper end of the lake and saw 1 Great Blue Heron, 150 Canada Geese, 2 Buffleheads, 10 Common Mergansers (my first of the season), 1 immature Bald Eagle, and 45 Killdeer. The second stop at Big Branch produced only one Killdeer. At the third stop, Pigtail, we found 13 Killdeer. Finally, we walked around the Greenbridge area and saw 1 Horned Grebe, 1 Great Blue Heron, 200 Canada Geese, 33 Black Ducks, 1 Mallard, 1 male Greater Scaup, 1 male unidentified scaup, 5 SURF SCOTERS (2 males, 3 females), about 40 Buffleheads, 1 male Hooded Merganser, 17 Ruddy Ducks, 1 Coot, 5 Killdeer, 1 GREATER YELLOWLEGS, and 1 Ring-billed Gull.
At sunset I joined Bill Ellis at Liberty Lake. We found 14 Common Loons, 1 Horned Grebe, 3 Double-crested Cormorants, 65 Canada Geese, a flock of Tundra Swans heard flying around in the clouds, 27 Buffleheads, 3 Hooded Merganser, 1 Ruddy Duck, and 33 Ring-billed Gulls.
