I moved into this house about 17 years ago and promptly hung various bird feeders, including a suet feeder. It has taken as many years to make all these feeders squirrel & racoon proof, but that's another story.
I've always had Flickers in the yard, but they've never bothered to come to the feeders. NEVER! It's been so frustrating trying to figure out how to lure them to the feeders. Today, I was astonished to see a female flicker picking at the suet feeder. She stayed a long time and dug quite a hole. It was so good to see.
