Denise...that red tailed has been hanging in the 'hood for several weeks. I've spotted him at Connecticut and Columbia twice now. He's been very vocal and I've been wondering if a mate is nearby. Perhaps they're setting up housekeeping.

A lone Red-Tailed Hawk was soaring the skies between DuPont Circle and L St. to the south a few minutes ago. It is rare that I get to see anything beyond Am. Crows, the occasional Turkey Vulture, the usual mix of Ring-Billed Gulls and Starlings, I was excited to have something new!

I also had an adult Red-Tail sitting over the trail in Rock Creek Park yesterday near the zoo entrance and a Belted Kingfisher on the creek near Beach Dr. and Military Road. So, where do Kingfishers roost at night when they are not nesting? Do they continue to stay in their nesting burrows or do they roost in a tree?
